The Most Pirated Show to Date

“Game of Thrones” holds the distinction of being the most widely pirated show to date. The number one reason for this is apparently the unavailability of the series except through HBO and its affiliates. This means that it cannot be accessed through video on demand services, leaving its more adventurous eager followers to find ways around the limitation.

Consider these figures: Season 2 has been downloaded at least 25 million times according to the analysis firm of Bit Torrent and the show’s consistent placement among the top 100 in a file-sharing site. These significant numbers have been sought to be explained by the same limitation mentioned above – the need to subscribe for cable service which may be way beyond the budget of younger viewers.

“Game of Thrones” is a medieval fantasy series which is an adaptation of “A Song of Ice and Fire” by author George R.R. Martin. It holds the additional advantage of viewer and critic acceptance- all the more reasons for illegal downloaders to try and watch it all cost.

The much-hyped interest is probably a result of the combination of aggressive marketing and a genuinely good show. The series enjoys an extensive leverage in story line, having the advantage of the novel series within which to create the scenes. It is one of the most highly-budgeted shows in TV with a cast which is also said to be the largest among the TV shows.
