Curt Smith releases 2nd album under CC license

I think the creative commons licensing scheme is a god send for many artists as well as fans of good music. Finally, here is a great way of distributing music with a copyright scheme that is inclusive, pro-people, and artist friendly. I have always maintained that present copyright laws are oppressive and just benefit big corporations.

I admire the efforts of artists like Tears for Fears frontman Curt Smith who support creative commons. Curt has recently released his second solo album, Halfway, Pleased, under a creative commons license.

He said his decision to use a creative commons license is logical, “It allows me to set the legal parameters of how my music can be used up front without the ridiculous expense of hiring a lawyer. Finally someone has come along and introduced a copyright system that everyone can understand. I don’t need a lawyer to write it and the public doesn’t need lawyers to decipher it.”

Good one, Curt.
