iPhone Nova

Written by Nick on February 25, 2008

iphone-nova.jpgHailed as the first and only dedicated download site for iPhone stuff such as downloads where you get movies, music, games, e-books and so much more, ready for download to your iPhone(well, maybe not totally true for you have iTunes, remember, the site owned by the one who made your iPhone?). Want to get content that is constantly updated through wireless, they have it plus many more bonus offers. A one time $50.00 registration gives you access to the best and latest iPhone stuff. The site is actually a P2P site which provides you with the necessary software and links you to the best music and videos on the planet. Though they give away the software for free and the user’s license you purchase gives you the right to use their service, it does not give you total rights to upload or download copyrighted stuff.

This is kind of the trend that P2P sites are turning to, now that media giants are after their tails accusing them of promoting piracy by allowing the uncontrolled sharing and swapping of music, videos, games and many other files which are subject to copyright law. These sits have grown in confidence and continue to do so for as the LA judge who ruled that P2P sites are not the culprits and that it is the user’s themselves who are the ones committing the dastardly act of piracy. That is why a visit to the legal notice page of all P2P site tells you that you, get it YOU are responsible for what you download or upload and you can get sued for doing so with no consequence to the P2P site which provided you the software and links when you do so. They give you access to all the best download sites for your needs. They will not provide you a burning software (for burning your downloaded DVD’s and they will not transfer them to your iPhone (what they give you is the converting software that makes the stuff you get useable on your iPhone). Check them out to get access to some of the hottest and best downloads, for iPhones that is and get your way to media bliss.

PerfSpot.com

Written by Nick on January 20, 2008

perf.JPGThe site is akin to MySpace and other social networking sites which offers similar content for others who share the same interests and likes. Associated to EzTracks which has been featured in the previous posts, it is a new and refreshing option to searching shotgun over the net. The site can be accessed with the initial login to the FreeMusicConnection site which re-directs you to a registration page where you are asked for your email address. Once you get through the registration page, you get access to almost all the free music and other free stuff they are offering. EzTracks, their sister site offers royalty-free music that can be downloaded from the site which is not a P2P service. They are simply a web portal that offers more than just free music but also the free music videos that come with them. There are also features similar to other social networking sites that allow users to create their own pages to share music, photos, videos and just about anything they want to share. They can chat and do other social stuff on the web without the endless searching and browsing through P2P sites.

P2P sites have come under attacks from proponents and supporters of the DRM which has suffered blow after blow from those who have expressed support over the promotion of such rights. Only one of the four major record labels has allowed their products to be released in digital format (Mp3, AAC, etc.) with the rest bowing and accepting the reality of the uncontrollable nature of the music sharing phenomenon over the internet. They now offer music in digital form and cd’s(audio) that do not have DRM provisions which have proven to be ineffective if not useless at all.

Music and Movie sharing sites – Wolves in sheep’s clothing???

Written by Nick on January 17, 2008

free.jpgI recently read the article on squidoo regarding the activities of these sites that say they offer free and unrestricted downloads of all types of music and movies. The article says they are scams and believe me many are for as long as I can remember in writing for this blog, I’ve come across tons of them.

Some sites offer free downloads at the beginning in exchange for subscriptions for their music service (which has declined in the recent years with the proliferation of P2P download sites that have all the latest tracks up for grabs). They give you a couple of tracks and then offer you more, for a fee of course. Some sites are totally commercial and have you subscribe up front to get access to their vast collection of stuff which is by the way the best one to go with for the music you get from them is considered to be licensed. The more devious sites hook you in, keep you on the line and pull you in along with the sinker and all. They do crazy stuff such as drop malware and viruses as they go exploiting vulnerabilities in your system’s configuration. They even contain stuff that shouldn’t even be available to those who don’t want or are not even interested in them (porn and other dirty stuff) without you even asking for it.

But along the way, I’ve come along some unexpected sites such as the BBC and other library sites facilities that have a lot of archived free stuff that you can get for personal use. The industry has stopped research and development into copyright protection for all types of media simply because they are futile and people still get them somewhere over the internet. Responsible users do respect the rights of the owners and buy licensed originals but there are just too many people who want it for free. Hackers make this possible with deep rooted hate towards industry for their ways and monopoly. Others, do it for hatred of the people who make the software and music so whatever the reason it might be left to the user to say enough is enough and initiate control over them (which is next to impossible) but we can make a change by starting on your own.

Morpheus

Named after the famous character from the Matrix series, is another of the P2P file sharing programs on the net offering tons of free downloads and other free stuff. Like many of the P2P systems in use, the program does not yet include a function that prevents control over copyrighted content but they promise this in future versions. There are tons of downloads available once you get the client interface software from the site which is by the way also free to download. They have video, audio, pictures and many more items available for download. The P2P platform has managed to stay in use due to the ease at which large files are shared and transferred from user to user through the internet.

Other download methods simply take too much time and come with the risks of malicious programs embedded within the file itself. P2p is fast and safe for most of the part and they can be used for free or as part of a paid service where you pay a certain amount for a number of downloads per month. The improvements regarding copyrights are coming and might make it a bit harder to share files but unique and original content from all over the world shared by other users always remains free like all P2P programs and systems.

The client software also has a one-click CD burning function which allows the downloaded content to be burned directly onto a disk for portable computing and use. It also features parental control which many other programs lack allowing better control over what gets through and what doesn’t.

iMesh

The company has had a ton of stints with the law but guess what, they are now legal, or they claim to be. The company is one of the foremost music source for those who wanted free music and many more and took the role from the damned Napster which was forced to close due to many legalities they couldn’t cope with a few years back. The new iMesh offers legal downloads with licenses from many record labels in their move to maintain their many a loyal following. The site has been around for quite some time which now boasts over 2 million strong collection of songs and other free stuff you can download and burn directly to cd’s or DVD’s for your listening pleasure.
iMesh is recognized to be the pioneer of the multi-source download which allows people to download songs and other content from a variety of sources(swarming) allowing faster and more reliable downloads. The site offers a free download of their latest software which includes a mini-player and more stringent privacy functions. They have also been offering hassle-free resumable downloads which allows long files to be downloaded easy making it one of the best sites to get stuff from. Everybody has experiences of interrupted downloads that you spend all night waiting for and end up with junk due to a power glitch or fluctuation causing the download to hang or have useless parts having you downloading it again and so on and so forth. The continue function allows you to cut a download, get to doing whatever needs doing and get back to it while you are at the helm of your computer to monitor the progress of the process. Check out the iMesh.com site for more information on the new stuff and hottest songs/tracks that are available for download from their library of legal and free stuff.

Music 2 Hues

Written by Nick on December 10, 2007

The site is a quite recent newcomer and it offers royalty free downloads of many stuff offered for producers and animation artists. They have a selection of Flagship downloads for titles and some instant downloads allowing web developers easy access to much needed content for background themes and many others. It is quite a nifty site that has theme packs, sound effects and broadcasts all in one site which if one was quite in need of much needed resources say for a web site under development and many other applications.

Some are available for a price and some are free but the best stuff come from their paid sections which would give you quite a lot of value for money. The theme pack series comes with all the necessary stuff from one genre giving you access to all the relevant and best tracks for audio and video content development all in one disk for the said genre selected. The SFX library gives one access to any of the 800 natural or SFX electronic stuff contained sound tracks for use on a variety of applications. The broadcast series contains stuff for use on your custom program and the best part of it is that most are royalty free meaning you only purchase one time without the hassle of paying for use every time it is used.
The site offers a whole lot more so be sure to check them out for more neat and useful stuff fro all your web development sound and effects needs. Yeah, they might be asking for a price but you get the stuff all in one neat package for parcel delivery or immediate download.

Surprising source of Free Music and a lot of other cool stuff

Written by Nick on November 29, 2007

BBC, surprisingly has a quite extensive collection of downloadable and free music. BBC/easy/music has a wide selection of music from most genre’s. From the Blues, Soul, Reggae, Classical, classic Pop Rock and many more. This might be a new approach for the many News agencies around who have finally realized that their web sites used to be so boring people still read the paper. BBC is one of the most trusted news networks in the world and their many versions (TV, Music etc…) have a little to offer in terms of music. There are even Pod cast downloads of your favorite shows from the radio or the tele.

Internet Archives is another site with an extensive collection of music from all over the world which has been now declared a true library due to the ever growing collection of, well, everything. In digital form that is that they have accumulated since 1999 when the organization was founded. A non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide a facility for the storage of archives so that researchers can access them for use in their work fields of study. They even have a collection of archived web pages, many of which no longer exist. A story by the AP has remarked that when web pages die, they go to heaven in the bowels of the extensive collection. These records or archives are considered by them as a cultural record of our identity for all man to use and share. The said Internet Library has been officially declared a “Library Status”, thus giving it the right to get assistance from the federal government in the form of funding.

Free Downloads of the Not-so-Famous Types: Not Bad !!!!

Written by Nick on November 22, 2007

Quickly searching on the net for downloads of videos and photos you get a lot of results that are not quite satisfactory. Don’t count on a download of the latest Alicia Keys MTV, you can watch and listen though. Well, wake up people nothing is free anymore on this here earth. There are however tons of free stuff form artists who aren’t quite on the top yet (Hey, it doesn’t mean that they’re not famous yet that they’re nobody) but are quite cool nonetheless.
Many sites say that they know how to get the hottest stuff from the charts and legally. I don’t know about the legally stuff but they’re all a form of piracy. You buy an audio CD and rip it into your PC then share it with friends over the internet? Read the legal statements on the packaging dudes as they say that the music or whatever that is in the disks you bought are for home and private use only, any public display or in other words anything else that you do with the stuff except listen if it’s an audio CD can be constituted as Piracy.
Enough of the legal stuff and let’s get back to those not-so-famous artists. You can go to the wide array of free stuff aspiring artists place in their MySpace pages and you are sure to find some very good stuff. Many of them really are good and quite promising and who knows that they could be the next ”Beyonce” or “Justin Timberlake”. Just be patient and enjoy yourself. Another thing, if you record stuff from internet radio, its still piracy!

More Free music and Music videos

Written by Nick on November 19, 2007

Browsing around, I got to the site Artist direct.com and found many music downloads and I also got to see a lot of artwork from bands from the yesteryears (the 80’s actually). The site boasts a huge collection of old and new stuff that you can listen to online. In the freebie’s section you can get free mp3 downloads and many more fun links to make the visit a lot more enjoyable. Of course the site has paid downloads for the latest stuff but who cares. Paid is good for you can demand for the stuff you paid for. Get pirated stuff and you can’t do anything. Like many stuff on the net, music and videos have to earn their worth or cost so do sponsor these sites. Did I mention they also have some hot games and contests where you could win tons of free music stuff? Well they do, plus a whole lot more so check out the site for more information.Soundflavor.com is another new site that allows users to create playlists and share them with friends. You can also find some promo stuff and free downloads that have been approved for free downloading. They even have a tool for your Ipod that allows the creation of playlists for importing into your Personal Digital Media Player.
Many sites are popping up in hopes of capturing some share of the video and photo downloads market but it’s the big boys who still earn the big bucks. Visit all the major music companies and you get all the premier downloads and videos, for a fee of course and they prevent that stuff you just bought from being shared for your purchase has a personal use license which when transferred onto another computer or sent through the internet renders it useless.
