Tray Disk Free:HD monitor

Written by Nick on December 1, 2008

People who love to download stuff on the internet are usually faced with a common problem. They usually run out of hard drive space without them knowing it.

that’s why Tray Disk Free is such a great app to have. This application is only 29k and a windows only software. What it does after installation is to go resident in your system and monitor all of the drives in a system. It only consumes a megabyte of RAM.

By clicking the tray icon, you’ll see the main window pop up. The taskbar button allows you to see a full display of all the free space on your hard drive as well as the percentage of total drive space.

Tray Disk has the ability to support command line arguments that allow you to specify which drives to monitor, the display bar color as well as the number of seconds before it updates again. You can actually open multiple instances of the application so you can monitor multiple drives at the same time.

You can download Tray Disk Free on this link. This app is for Windows only. A reminder to Windows vista owners. You will have to put the MSVBVM50.dll on the same folder as the executable of Tray Disk.

Download songs from Last.Fm

Written by Nick on November 5, 2008

Listeners to Last.Fm who wish they can also download the songs that they listen to can now do so with LastSharp.

You will have to have a rudimentary knowledge of German though.

The download link to the app is located right below the Aktuelle Version text, which leads to Rapidhsare or download mirrors. No installation is needed, all you need is to extract the rar’ed file. Another requirement is for .Net 2.0 to run on your PC.

The app, though in German, can be changed to show English by clicking the Erweiterte Einstellungen tab. All you need to do to use LastSharp is to use your Las.Fm username and password and use the search function. Just check the songs you want to download and you’re done.

This is one nifty tool that will definitely increase your Mp3 collection.

One of the most popular freeware image editors now has a new version.

Gimp has recently released version 2.5.4, which fixes a number of items while also adding a new feature.

First up are the fixes. The new version has fixed some user interface bugs. The fixes include the ability to recover docks and toolboxes if the window menu is accidentally closed. Users can also lock the tabs to the dock in order to prevent it from being accidentally dragged out. Additionally, the presets can be saved at the color tools. The application’s help system has also been improved and there is now online browsing support. A good addition to the application is a blank placeholder window where files that are being edited can be dragged and dropped for easy access.

Google introduces Chrome

Written by Nick on September 9, 2008

As far legally downloadable apps and utilities go, Google has been providing some of the best in the last few years.

Another cool addition to their expanding line of applications is Google Chrome, the search engine giant’s first web browser. The new browser is a good example of simplicity. There are no excessive buttons or toolbars, what you get is a clean interface that maximizes the available space.

As a logical extension of its design aesthetic, Chrome introduces the omnibar. What it basically did is to transform the address bar into a multifunction tool where you not only type in the website address you want to visit, it also serves as a search bar. One cool thing is that when you use the built-in search function of a website, the omnibar will remember it and the next time you can do that in-site search through the bar itself.

The best thing about Chrome is that it is open source so expect a lot of development going on from third parties.
