If you’ve been wondering how to get Skype onto your mobile, your problem has been solved. iSkoot is a little software that you can download for free onto your mobile phone to begin doing so. Once you’ve downloaded iSkoot you can begin sending and receiving calls using Skype without a PC and without having to be at a wifi hotspot.
Of course not all phone models can work with iSkoot. You have to check that you are holding one of these models:
- Motorola RAZR V3, SLVR L7, PEBL,V557
- Nokia 6021, 6102, 6600, 6680, 6682,6030
- Palm Treo 650, Treo 700P
- Sony Ericsson v600i or w600i
Next, you’ll need to make sure that you live in one of the 30 countries included in their global coverage. No explanation has been offered as to why only a few countries are included but it most likely has to do with the mobile telecomminication companies in those areas not wanting the service made available through their service. That’s a real bummer!
iSkoot opens the doorway to VOIP on your mobile. You don’t need any special equipment or need to be anywhere specific to use it. You get to use Skype like you do on your PC no matter where you are.
If you’re wondering about the rates, the Skype part is charged exactly the same as on the PC. Skype to Skype calls are free and specified rates apply for SkypeOut and SkypeIn. You also need to add your air time rate on top of that. For those who make a lot of international calls from their mobile phones, this can mean a lot of savings.
